Vetta's solution brought about a major transformation in the routine and monitoring culture of the mining company.
Belo Horizonte, October 2, 2025
The implementation of the SMS Journal platform—a solution developed by Vetta / SMS group for the management of operational deviations, events, and anomalies—has generated a significant transformation in the Integrated Operations Center (COI) of Samarco, a Brazilian mining company founded in 1977. The partnership between Vetta and Samarco has proven to be a major success story for both companies, providing a great transformation in the mining company's monitoring routine and culture.
According to Samarco, the SMS Journal platform is a success story for the company because, with this solution, it was possible to improve controls and minimize losses in mineral production. With the technology, the mining company can identify deviations and anomalies in real-time, acting preventively before small problems escalate into major failures. The tool automatically monitors around 40 critical parameters in various production areas, such as concentrators and slurry pipelines, triggering automatic alerts for operational teams when any change is detected.
This approach resulted in a reduction of almost 50% in the monthly average of iron-related deviations, which generated significant operational gains in process economy and stability. Ludmila Beghini, coordinator of Samarco’s Integrated Operations Center, emphasized that, "The management of quality events, combined with technology and the preventive action of the teams, transformed data into value, promoting greater control, productivity, and sustainability in Samarco's industrial processes."
Ricardo Paulo Almeida Domingos, also a member of the Integrated Operations Center (COI) team, evaluates the partnership with Vetta as very positive, highlighting the proximity, constant alignment, and openness to understanding the mining company's specific needs. "You (the Vetta team) demonstrated strong technical knowledge, flexibility, and the capacity to adapt the solution to the reality of our process," states Ricardo. This adaptability was crucial for the Journal to integrate perfectly into Samarco's routines, ensuring the tool was functional and relevant from the first deliveries. "The agile methodology adopted by Vetta, with assisted operation and incremental evolution, allowed for quick results, a decisive factor for the project's success," he affirms.
In Ricardo's view, the Journal's ease of configuration was one of the main points that guaranteed the necessary flexibility. "This, combined with Vetta's structured and interactive approach to project management, ensured that operational routines were adapted to maximize the tool's potential," he highlights. The Journal, being a consolidated product in the market, offers traceability and operational governance, characteristics that were decisive for Samarco to recommend the solution both to other companies and to internal teams.
In addition to measurable gains, Ricardo Domingos highlights a crucial intangible gain: the elevation of the monitoring process to a new level in terms of routine and operational culture. With the Journal, all deviations, events, and anomalies are quickly visualized and disseminated throughout the entire production chain, with a consolidated history that facilitates analysis and decision-making.
Looking ahead, the partnership between Samarco and Vetta continues to advance. The next phases involve expanding monitoring to environmental, water, and atmospheric parameters, as well as parameters related to operational assets.
Vetta celebrates Samarco's trust and recognition in this project. This collaboration reinforces Vetta's commitment to always delivering innovative solutions that generate real value and transform the daily lives of its clients.
