Held from May 5th to 8th in Nashville (USA), this is the world's largest annual iron and steel exposition and conference.
This week, between May 5th and 8th, Vetta was present at AISTech 2025, the premier international event for technology in the steel industry. Held in Nashville, Tennessee (USA), this year's event focused on innovation and technological advancements across the entire steel production chain. Highlights included solutions and strategies for improving operational efficiency, reducing costs, increasing sustainability, and implementing digital technologies and artificial intelligence in the steel sector.
In this context, our Head of Engineering, Lis Soares, presented three innovative works that demonstrate Vetta's commitment to process optimization, carbon emission reduction, and the application of cutting-edge artificial intelligence in the steel sector:
“Multiobjective Optimization of Coal Blend for Cokemaking Using NSGA-III”¹ – This work presents an advanced approach to optimize the combination of different types of coal used in coke production, a crucial input in steel manufacturing. Through the application of the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm III (NSGA-III), Vetta demonstrated how it is possible to simultaneously achieve multiple objectives, such as cost reduction, improved coke quality, and minimization of environmental impact.
“Real Case of Optimization in the Recovery and Use of Steelmaking Gases Through an Artificial Intelligence Tool Leading to CO2 Reduction”² – This practical case study illustrated the successful implementation of an artificial intelligence tool developed by Vetta to optimize the capture and reuse of gases generated in the steelmaking process. The intelligent solution demonstrated a significant impact on reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, in addition to promoting energy efficiency within the steel plant.
“Predicting NOx emissions in steel production: model development and validation”³ – This study addresses the development and validation of a model for predicting nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions in the steel production process. The research aims to provide a tool capable of anticipating and assisting in the management of these emissions, contributing to environmental control and process optimization in the steel industry.
¹ Multiobjective optimization of coal blend for cokemaking using NSGA-III – Ana Carolina Rocha; Arthur Farah; Kássio Cançado; Lis Soares.
² Real case of optimization in the recovery and use of steelmaking gases through an artificial intelligence tool leading to CO2 reduction – Fernanda Machado; Arthur Farah; Lis Soares; Fernanda Drumond; Ricardo Giacomin; Thiago Maia; Marcos Rodrigues.
³ Predicting NOx emissions in steel production: model development and validation – Paula Pomaro; Lis Soares; Alexsander Costa; Arrigo Bertolissio; Marco Soccorsi.
Our presence and the presentation of Lis Soares' work at AISTech 2025 reinforce Vetta's role as a protagonist in the search for innovative and sustainable solutions for the steel industry. The presented technologies and methodologies highlight the potential of artificial intelligence and advanced optimization to drive energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and optimize production processes in the sector. Vetta remains committed to developing and implementing solutions that contribute to a more efficient and sustainable future for the industry.
